Question:
Can anyone recommend a reputable comic-book dealer
who buys collections? I have a bunch of comic books
that were stored since the early 60s, mostly Superman,
Spider Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Green Lantern,
Doctor Strange, The Flash, The Fly, Justice League,
Iron Man, and similar types. One is the original
(#1) issue of the X-Men, and many others are
very low-numbered. I have the one where Iron
Man first changed from his old armor to the later
version, also the Spider-Man issue where Sandman is
first introduced.
I'm looking for someone who will give me an honest
appraisal of value, and possibly be willing to
purchase them for a reasonable percentage of that
appraisal. If there's a web site that has hints
about appraising condition and value, I'd like
a pointer so I can get an idea of where I stand.
I found one web site that lists values for a few
of the comics, but only in "near mint" condition
with no explanation of what that means. I'd say
all of the issues I have are "near mint" if this
refers to tears/marks, but on the other hand I
notice that almost all of the interior pages are
turning yellow with age. How does this affect
value?
Or should I open an account and auction these
things on Ebay? I don't plan to keep them.
Answer:
Try http://www.wizardworld.com/ I'd love to buy some of your X-Men,
especially the X-Men #1, but I probably can't afford to give you what it's
worth.
These comics should be VERY valuable if in good condition. I've never sold
comics with a company nor an individual before, so I don't know how the
comic book purchase works, but good luck on your sale, and remember, there
are lots of people that would pay you list and above for certain comics. Try
and find a comic book convention or something close to it.
