Question:
who else knows this guy in real life? he's my favorite character and its
sad to say he reminds me of a lot of my friends.
He needs to be featured more.
Answer:
-I disagree - his type of humor is hilarious, but it kind of seems like it
would be too easy to overdo. He's perfect how he is - making an occasional,
often hilarious, appearance.
Still, any reference to the Simpsons is golden.
-How about an episode where he is in search of the one comic book he
doesn't have (because it was just destroyed) - Spiderman Number 1.
"One more step and Spidey gets it!"
-I always joke that he's based on aint-it-cool-news.com's Harry Knowles,
or actually that Harry Knowles based himself on the character (there
was definitely a short period in which they specifically wrote some
Harry-isms into the character). I'm told however, by an animator friend
of mine who visits the Simpsons office on occasion, that the "real"
comic book shop guy is (or was) in San Fransisco. Anybody in the Bay
Area know this guy? I'm pretty sure he's still there running a comic
book shop, and he would be only a few years older than the character
(how long ago did he debut, anyhow?)
