Question:
I enjoyed the early issues of Ghost Rider vol 2 written by Howard Mackie
with art by Javier Saltares. Even the latter issues of the title weren't
bad, with guest appearances by X-men, Spider-man etc.
Maybe that was the problem. Ghost Rider was overused like the Punisher. He
was in mini-series and in other people's books almost every other month. And
I guess the quality of the stories diminished, all of which affected sales.
Maybe he wasn't allowed to change after eighty something odd issues.
Any one else have any theories as to why this series was canceled? Also, is
a reboot of the character in the works? Where is the character anyway?
Answer:
-He was changed. He started wearing some god aweful red costume.
The reason it was cancelled was Pop Mahn IMO. His art work seemed to
send sales plummeting (for good reason, I wouldn't read a comic where I
can draw better than the artist and I think I suck). The sales were
horrid and Marvel kept it around because of a proposed animated series
(so they cancelled the Warriors instead which sucked). Sales were so
horrible that they couldn't even be bothered printing the last issue
because orders were so attrociously low.
-The art in Pop Mhan's issues of Ghost Rider were some of the worst art I have
EVER seen in a comic book. Luckily his style improved a bit before doing the
Flash and SpyBoy. But that stuff... pee-yew.
It was kind of disappointing because when Saltares (and then Texiera) returned
in the end things were starting to get back on track. But then, the book was
cancelled. It's too bad we never got that final issue.
I remember reading somewhere the plans for beyond #100 but I forgot what they
were now.
