Question:
I'm thinking about putting up an On-line Comic Book Price Guide. It will
be based on feedback I get from certain shops, what I see here on RACM,
Overstreet, Wizard, etc. What do you guys think? Should I bother? It's
alot of work but before I dive into it I want to make sure there's
interest in it.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Also, any help would be nice
to...like Graphics work, some reviews, news, etc.
Answer:
-Well, there may be a justifiable amount of interest. But you also run the risk,
perhaps not immediately but almost certainly eventually, of *influencing*
rather than reporting price trends. And, if you'll remember, that was a major
complaint here in r.a.c.m. about Overstreet before the last Annual came out. It
also seems to be a major reason people turn to r.a.c.m. in the first place; to
avoid artificially influenced pricing. Here people decide what *they* want to
pay, and often get items for their price, rather than having an arbitrary third
party (which is what a "guide" ends up being) telling them they can't get it
for $X but should instead expect to pay $Y. Just some food for thought.
-That's a fine idea. If I were to create an online price guide for comics
I would concentrate on prices obtained in online trading. Ebay, this
marketplace and maybe some online sites.
-Many have suggested it, and it hasn't happened yet...if you're going to
use Wizard and Overstreet, get permission first so that they don't try
to shut you down (there may be a copyright issue involved in using their
work).
If you build it, they will come-- depending on accuracy of the pricing.
